In Memory

Helen Haney (Shipman)

Helen Haney (Shipman)

CANTON — Helen Marie Shipman, 76, entered into her eternal heavenly home on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Helen was born January 29, 1945 in Haywood County, where she resided until her death. She graduated in 1962 from Canton High School and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.

Helen’s most outstanding characteristic was love, especially toward children. When she saw people in need, she couldn’t rest until she had done her part to help them.

She worked as a personnel manager in the retail and the medical supply industries, before finishing her career serving children at Head Start. Those who knew Helen witnessed to her competence and kindness. Previous managers and co-workers have stated, “Helen was the best employee we had.”

Before passing away, Helen courageously battled a more than decade-long terminal illness. Her faith in Christ sustained her as she faced what seemed to be insurmountable trials. Yet in the midst of each trial, she was thankful for the Lord’s provision. In her final moments, she gracefully passed into Christ’s presence.             She deeply loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Helen was the daughter of Jesse and Demmie Haney and was also preceded in death by her son, John Derrick Shipman, in 2019.

Surviving are her husband, Boyd Shipman, and her son, Michael Shipman and his wife, Katharine Shipman. Her surviving grandsons are John Shipman II and Caleb Shipman. Her surviving granddaughters are Bethany Shipman (Christopher Shupe) and Hannah Shipman (James Hamilton). Her sole surviving great-grandson is William Hamilton. Helen is also survived by her brother, John Haney (Faye Haney).
