Canton- Michael “Mickey” Jerome Kirkland, age 79, peacefully entered into his eternal Heavenly home on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Mickey was born September 28, 1941 to the late Charles Kirkland and the late Lorena Payne Kirkland. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and a graduate of Canton High School. Mr. Kirkland had been employed as a maintenance technician for several businesses located throughout the county and he was also was a driver for Haywood County Transit. Mickey was blessed with a wonderful outgoing personality and he made friends easily. He delighted in making people laugh and his sense of humor brought great happiness to his family and many friends. Mr. Kirkland was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church and his faith was an important part of his life. He loved all of his family deeply and Mickey will forever be remembered as a wonderful humanitarian that strongly believed in helping others. We give thanks for Mickey’s life and rejoice that he is now in paradise. All is well. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Kirkland and also two brothers. Surviving are his loving wife, Wanda McClure Kirkland, who together they have shared soon to be 57 years of a wonderful marriage; his beloved daughter, Angela Davis of Canton; grandchildren that he adored, Matthew Kirkland of Forest City, Dakota Kirkland of Forest City, Amanda Cogburn of Canton, Andrew Kirkland of Asheville and Hannah Trojan of Sumter, SC ; three precious great-grandchildren and a beloved sister, Judy Clark of Canton; several nieces, nephews and great- nieces and nephews and many friends. The funeral service to honor and celebrate Mr. Kirkland’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Harmony Grove Baptist in Canton. Officiating at the funeral service will be Rev. Tom Shook, Rev. Ronnie Bennett and Rev. David Hal. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Bethel Communiy Cemetery
