Shirley Garrett (Owen)

 

Clyde, NC, Shirley Ann Garrett Owens, 75, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Born June 5, 1944, she was a life-long resident of Haywood County.

Shirley was a wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She was an avid gardener and loved being outside working in her flowerbeds. Shirley enjoyed the game of baseball and instilled that same love of the game in her sons and grandsons. Her true joy was spending time with her husband, laughing with her grandsons and watching them grow up.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Ruth Garrett, her eldest son, Jeffrey Paul Owens; and a great-nephew, Aaron Garrett.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, of 59 years, Paul Owens, of Clyde; son, Greg Owens; grandsons, Gavin and Gage Owens, of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Amie Owens, of Waynesville; sister, Nancy Mull (Robert), of Canton; two brothers, Gary Garrett (Anne), of Waynesville and Randy Garrett (Debbie), of Asheville; two nieces, Stacey Schulhofer (Scotty) and Shannon Davis; two nephews, Josh and Caleb Garrett; one great-niece, Sydney Schulhofer; and four great-nephews, Sam, Scout and Slade Schulhofer and Owen Garrett.

Considering the current public health situation, a private family service will be held.

Shirley's family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Silver Bluff Nursing Facility for the care and compassion shown to Shirley throughout her stay.

In lieu offlowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia Research, c/o Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

The care of Mrs. Owens has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
